Piranha 3D

Review: 1 Star     Rated: 18-A     Time: 1hr 29min

The piranhas bite, but not as bad this movie!

Plot: Piranha 3D is a 3D horror film and the second remake of the 1978 film, directed by Alexandre Aja and featuring an ensemble cast including Jessica SzohrAdam ScottElisabeth ShueKelly Brook, Richard DreyfussJerry O’ConnellChristopher LloydVing RhamesDina MeyerCody LongoRicardo Antonio ChaviraPaul Scheer, and Eli Roth. The script was written by Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger, the writers of Sorority Row.  This is the third Piranha movie in the franchise. After an earthquake splits open the bed of a lake, schools of a thought to be extinct species of piranha find their way from their subterranean lake to the one above, which just happens to be hosting Spring Break festivities for thousands of college kids.  The sheriff and her deputies must battle to save as many people as they can.

Did It Suck? It’s pretty hard to write any meaningful review of this movie because it sucked so badly.  It does live up to the expectations I had from seeing the other two (maybe in 1978 and 1981), but I had hoped for much more.  A large part of the plot revolves a porn filmmaker shooting scenes on the lake, and it’s Spring Break, so there is a lot of female nudity.  The scenes where the piranhas attack are very gory, but, as with most horror  movies they’re actually pretty funny because they are so over done.  So, if you like boobs and gore you’ll probably get a good laugh from this, but otherwise I’d absolutely just Not Bother and save your money.
