Vampires Suck

It’s all fun and games until someone gets bitten

Plot: Vampires Suck is a 2010 comedy/spoof of the Twilight series of books and movies, starring Jenn Proske, Matt Lante, Diedrich Bader and Chris Riggi, and was directed by Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer.  While some references are made to other vampire movies it really is a direct spoof of the Twilight books.  The movie has us following Becca (JJenn Proske) as she moves to a new school and meets and falls in love with Edward (Matt Lante), while fending off overtures from Jacob (Chris Riggi).  Sound familiar?

Did It Suck? The plot is very similar to the first Twilight movie and will be familiar to anyone who has seen it.  I, myself, have not seen the second one but suspect the latter part of Vampires Suck was moving into the second of the Twilight movies, but it’s still familiar territory.  It is quite short at just 1h 20m but that seems to be common for spoofs.  There’s not much to say about the acting because in a spoof movie that is really secondary to the comedy.  This one had the whole audience laughing regularly, and a few of us at some more subtle jokes that I think some people didn’t get.  A lot of spoofs try too hard, cover too many other movies, and overdo it; this one pretty much stuck to the Twilight movies and hit the nail on the head.  Was it cheesy?  Yes.  Were the jokes worth a groan?  Yes.  Is it Worth A Ticket?  Yes, but only if you have seen at least the first Twilight movie; if not you probably won’t get any of the jokes!
